Flyin' Frank Fischer Wins
Before Capacity Crowd at Bethel

Bethel Motor Speedway Saturday, May 30 2009 White Lake NY

Frank Fischer took the Spitfire 26 to Victory lane at Bethel Motor Speedway in front of a capacity crowd that was treated to a very exciting TQ midget feature.  Ian Cummens and Liquid Lou Cicconi won their respective heat races.  Mark Janisch won in the 600 Micro Sprints for the third time this season.

Ian Cummens had his Spitfire 79 dialed in for the first heat race opening a several car advantage on Frank Fischer and never looked back to record his first heat race win at Bethel.  Cicconi jumped into the lead and never looked back as he won the second heat over a hard charging Paul Lotier Jr. by a car length.

During intermission the ATQMRA had the Mike Tidaback 43 and the Austin Fehr 73 on display behind the grandstands for the capacity crowd that came out to see the lightening quick TQ midgets.  Numerous fans were on hand that remembered the TQ midgets from the Pinebrook days.  The throngs of people surrounded the cars and drivers as countless kids sat in both cars and both Tidaback and Fehr handed out all of their autograph cards.

The feature saw a front row of Alison Cummens and Liquid Lou Cicconi brought the field to the green.  Cicconi was able to get the jump on A. Cumens and open up a lead.  The initial start was aborted due to the single car crash of Jeremy Frankoski coming off the second turn.  A complete restart saw Cicconi regain the lead and put distance between himself and second place.  Mike Tidaback made a methodical charge to second place and started to reel in Cicconi in lapped traffic.  As Tidaback closed in to make a move for the lead he pinched the car too tight coming off the second turn and spun into the infield bringing out a caution.  This put Fischer in second place behind Cicconi.

On the ensuing restart the field had to scramble to avoid Lotier as he flipped coming to the green.  Cicconi remained in command until the 22nd lap when Fischer was able to make an inside move going into three to take the lead and win by ten car lengths over Cicconi and Ian Cummens who passed sister Alison for third on the last lap in the last turn.  The two bumped wheels and Ian won the race back to the line.  Zack Martini rounded out the top five, with Tim Proctor finished sixth in his season debut in the Paul Binz 98.  Tim Behmer was credited with a seventh place finish after being penalized for jumping the last restart.  The previous week’s winner Matt Janisch was eighth with Chris DeRitis ninth and Matt Roselli rounding out the top ten.

ATQMRA News and Notes:  The next event for the traveling ATQMRA is Saturday June 6 2009 at Sundance Vacation Speedway.  The last ATQRMA race at Bethel was also won by the 26 Spitfire by Joe Payne Jr. in 2007.  Fischer returned the 26 to victory lane for the first time in 09.  Looking ahead The ATQMRA will return to Wall Stadium on Saturday July 25th for the 35 lap Tony Romit Memorial race.  A capacity crowd was on hand at Bethel taking advantage of the $5.00 general admission price.  Fans were ten deep at the concession stand all night long.  Tim Proctor and Howard Boss brought their cars out for the first time in 09.  Despite the penalty Tim Behmer leads the point standings by 4 markers over Matt Janisch with the entire top ten in contention.  Come out and enjoy the family entertainment of the ATQMRA at Sundance Vacation Speedway in St. John’s, near Hazleton, Pa.  Check out the Youtube video of the exciting finish at Bethel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyznWEv-2q0 .
