Adams Back to Back ATQMRA Classic Winner

Oswego, NY 9/4/2010

National Parts Peddler ATQMRA Veteran Don Adams of Robbinsville, NJ followed up his 2009 Classic Victory with a win in 2010.  Oswego Speedway management and track crew worked tirelessly to dry the track and get the TQ midget Classic 25 lapper in the books despite persistent rain.

Following warm-ups the TQ midgets lined up for their feature race when it was decided to run a feature only show with the persistent lake effect rain in the area.

The front row of Matt’s, Roselli of Brodheadsville, Pa on the pole and Janisch from Nazareth, Pa to his right took the green under threatening sky’s with Roselli powering into the lead.  Roselli lead the first two circuits before Janisch got a bight down low coming off of turn 4 to take the lead.  Janisch opened a lead on second place until the caution flew for Ian Cumens who spun off the outside of turn 3 and 4 doing a 360 and continuing.

On the restart Adams first showed his hand when he made an outside move to sweep into the lead entering turn 3.  His pass was negated when Roselli’s car broke causing him to spin and nearly flip in the middle of 3 and 4.  The next restart went to Janisch’s advantage with Adams moving past Jeff Kot to take second.

The lead duo walked away from the field determined to settle this one between them.  Another caution flew on lap 7 for a slowing Robin Johnston.  The lap following the restart Adams was able to make a move under Janisch entering 3 to take the lead on lap 11.  Joey Payne jr. moved ahead of Kot to take third spot.

The lead trio moved away from fourth place and fought nose to tail the rest of the distance with Adams prevailing to take his second consecutive Classic Victory this time driving the Tim Behmer 96 Lindblad Badger.

ATQMRA News and Notes:        16 ATMQRA teams made the trip north under the worst of weather forecasts to compete in the 2010 Bud Classic weekend’s festivities.  Adams won the 2009 Classic in the Alan Mollet 51 Badger but had to borrow Tim Behmer’s Badger to race the 2010 Classic since Mollet had The “Jersey Jet” Joey Payne in the fabled 51.  The TQ midgets were the only division to get their racing in on their scheduled day.  Frank Fischer took a wild ride out off the outside of turn 3 flipping 7 plus times before coming to rest in the grass midway between the inner oval and the big track.  Frank was shaken but uninjured.  The same cannot be said for his 26 Spitfire.  The crew was unable to make repairs and ended Fischer’s day early.  Casey’s TQ regular Aric McGruder invaded the Classic posting a respectable top ten finish in his first appearance at Oswego.  Chris Stockham of nearby Cicero NY raced the Metz Racing 01 to a 7th place finish making him the Rookie of the Race.  Next up for the ATQMRA is a trip to the Sundance Vacation Speedway on Saturday September 19th with the Teterboro NJ Wings and Wheels Show Saturday September 25th and Sunday the 26th for the Pinebrook Reunion.  2007 ATQMRA Driving Champion Bob Watkins finished 9th in the Classic but has recently been diagnosed with a relapse of the cancer that sidelined him during the 09 season.  Bob can use our prayers and well wishes for a speedy recovery.
