The second Annual ATQMRA
Pinebrook Reunion at the Teterboro, NJ Airport's New Jersey
Air Hall of Fame Museum brought the people who attended the
races at Pinebrook Speedway together once more. The Payne
super modified took top appearance honors and dozens of kids
and adults alike took part in big wheel races. The ATQMRA
took the opportunity to promote the remaining races for the
08 season including this Saturday's King of the Mountain
race at Mountain Speedway and spread the word about the
re-opening of Wall Township Speedway for the Turkey Derby.
The ATQMRA had four Modern TQ
midgets on hand including the Blu Metz 46, the Mike Tidaback
43, The Richie Coy 12, and the Joe Payne 66. The 46 car
which is the former Ted Seiz 56 that won the last ATQMRA
championship contested during the Pinebrook era that
concluded at the end of the 1989 season.
The Payne 66 car was campaigned
by Joey Payne Jr at Pinebrook Speedway where he won numerous
races behind the wheel of the Twin Eagles Racer's. The
Payne Racing team took top honors in balloting by the show
attendees for best appearing race car of the show.
Mike Tidaback had strong ties to
Pinebrook as well. It was the site of his first ATQMRA
feature race win and was his home track near to his Little
Falls home.
The Coy Racing 12 was built and
has the legendary Johnny Coy Jr. as its crew chief. Johnny
Jr. started his TQ midget racing career during the Pinebrook
era winning numerous races at the Speedway driving for
numerous car owners that included the Payne Racing Twin
Eagle Racers. His father, Hall of Fame Midget Ace Johnny
Coy Sr. won the last race he ever entered in a Joe Payne
Sr. owned TQ midget with the ATQMRA at their season ending
Turkey Derby in the early 80s. Payne said Johnny Coy Sr. was
the best driver he ever had in one of his cars, stating he
was so easy on equipment.
Attending the show was Bob
Marlow, Son of Dick Marlow who built and ran the Pinebrook
Speedway for its first three years. Bob announced that he
would return to the Microphone as the official ATQMRA
announcer for the season ending Turkey Derby. The
Bellinato
Girls, the nieces of the late Jack
Bellinato who was the
last to promote Pinebrook speedway attended the show with
their families to remember the days gone by.
Billy Courtwright, Bob Buis,
Alan Mollot, Joe Stochel, Greg McGowan, Doug Anderson, Joe
Csernak, Wayne Laucius, Bob Marlow, Richie Tolericho and
countless other Pinebrook Alumni attended the show and
shared stories of one of the most exciting race tracks ever
built.
The next race for the ATQMRA
will be the King of the Mountain at Mountain Speedway near
Hazleton, Pa this coming Saturday September 27th with a
practice session on Friday night for all divisions.
See you at the races
